Cookin' from the Heart

Good food has often been quoted at the path to a man’s heart in our grandmother’s day.  One legend is told of the man who had the choice of two women as his bride.  He invited each (separately, of course) to his home to prepare a meal for him.  The lass who was wise enough to peel the potatoes thinly was his ultimate choice.  Maybe we won’t go quite so far but economy in managing a home is an important factor.  One of the wisest and most economical is preservation of food grown in the garden on a small farm.  With good “new fangled” practices the modern farmer or stay at home wife and mother can raise all her family needs on as little as 10 acres of land.  From raising animals for slaughter to making butter to providing eggs for the table, it can be done!  Be that as it may, our goal on these pages is to preserve the recipes that our ancestors valued while raising their families.  Eat well, live long and prosper!

The goal of our grandmother was to preserve enough food from her garden each summer that her family could eat well through the winter.

In this section you will find books edited for and by families and individuals.  We hope to preserve recipes that mama called “stick to the rib’ meals.  Cooking is fast becoming a lost art, let alone the recipes grandma knew by heart.  We believe that the art will come into fashion again and we want to have the cherished family recipes ready for their descendants to use.

Family recipe books are terrific for reunions and they also make great gifts for the new bride.
